Job Description

University professor position, with public employee status, in geography/urban studies. Other disciplines may be involved, such as, planning, anthropology, management, urbanism, economics sociology, political science…

Research

The field of interest includes urban studies in general, the dynamics of urbanization, and the changes in contemporary metropolises. The position is very open in terms of area of specialization. Candidates are expected to have a substantial research portfolio, an excellent publication record (including at least one work in his/her own name and international publications), experience in international research programs, solid teaching experience, and a major research project for the coming years. Comparative dimensions of the research (in different forms) are of interest, but not necessary, as is knowledge of spatial representation issues. Candidates can work on France, Europe or other parts of the world. The person recruited will work at a research centre with the team of the “cities are back in town” crosscutting research program. Depending on his/her background the recruited person will seek to join one of Sciences Po’s research centres. Since Sciences Po does not have a department of geography or of urban studies the selected candidate will become affiliated with one of Sciences Po’s five departments.

Teaching

Expectations in terms of teaching: three 24-hour courses per academic year, including one undergraduate geography course that can be taught at Sciences Po’s regional campuses, and at least one Urban School course.

Duties also include 56 hours of supplementary pedagogical activities. Candidates must have a command of English. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to teach in the doctoral school and to supervise dissertations.

The recruited person will be expected to be involved in his/her research centre and the Urban School’s activities and projects.
